In order to start promptly I ask that you arrive before 8... about 7:45 each day so that you are prepared for whatever will happen first!
Parents, we should be wrapping up at 5:30 pm so if you are on a tight schedule and don't want to wait please plan on picking up around 5:45!
Please be prompt in picking up your cadet as after each long day we are all ready to be home! :)
APPAREL: Please dress in comfortable clothes you can move around in. Preferably, wear some type of DMA Spirit wear!
Sneakers: It is mandatory that all members wear sneakers that are tight and secure on their feet. Flip-flops, sandals, or anything else you are unable to run in is unacceptable. We will start every day with a 10min jog and will also be doing many different marching maneuvers and you need to make sure your feet are prepared!
Sunscreen and Hat (if you like): we will be outside... need I say more? :)
WATER: Cadets have had great success with personal water jugs like this one. Please make sure it's marked with the cadet's name.
Many cadets also used Camelbacks for on-the-go watering.
We will have pop-tents for shade and cool-down snacks provided by the DMAMA during rehearsals!
FOOD: Lunch will be from 11am-12pm and we have microwaves available. There will also be a snack break from 2:30-3pm and the DMA Music Association plans to provide a few treats throughout the week!
For lunch, many kids take the time to go to Burger King via their own transportation, which is fine, but we will have specific rules as to where we can be during that hour when on campus (mainly in the music room).
If your cadet wants to go to Burger King with other cadets they must have a signed Transportation Permission Slip from the parent of both the riding cadet and the driving cadet (downloadable at the bottom of the page.)
Otherwise, Please make sure you have food or a plan for lunch. Also, please make sure your cadet has had breakfast of some kind.
We will be marching outside in the morning and parts of the afternoon so it is important they are fed and hydrated!
INSTRUMENTS/MUSIC/FLIP FOLDER/LANYARD/LYRE: You should have all these things every day at camp!
Make sure you have your instrument and it is in good working order for the week!
Music for the season is already available! Contact Mr. Grant for a copy so you can get a jump start!
Flip folders are suggested to keep music organized and in good shape… they are inexpensive on Amazon or at the local music store.
It is recommended cadets get 2 flip folders, one for their show music and one for their stand music to stay organized!
Cadets should also have a lanyard of some kind to wear their flip folder around their neck during rehearsal.
Lyres are devices used to hold a flip folder to your instrument (the link is to a trumpet one), they are specific to your instrument and can also be found on Amazon at the local music store. These are great for playing music in the stands!
WEATHER: Always plan for SUN for the majority of band camp! We do march in the rain at times (without instruments) and I do my best to keep your cadets safe and cool!
ATTITUDE: BRING A GOOD ATTITUDE!! This is SO IMPORTANT!
We are coming to work hard and accomplish a lot!
Like everything in life, Attitude = Outcome!
You will truly get what you put into this endeavor so enjoy the program, love the program, and make it a great experience by bringing an open mind and a great work ethic!
Friday the 19th!
SHOW PREVIEW AND PIZZA PARTY!
We will hold a Preview of the show, everything your cadet learned that week, in DMA's Fusco Stadium at 4:30pm!
Parents should come out and see what their cadet has learned during camp and then stay to celebrate with a pizza dinner with us! Our booster group, the DMA Music Association, will be providing the pizza and we will be sending out a form that week that asks for a headcount so that we can purchase enough pizza. We will try to obtain the headcount by end of the day Wednesday the 17th, so keep an eye out for that!
DOWNLOAD THE FOLLOWING FORMS AND BRING THEM TO CAMP!
